Russian Dwarf Hamsters are species that fall under the breed of Russian hamsters. This type has been a common choice for pet owners because they are very sociable in a way that they are easily tamed. This characteristic separates them from any other rodents of their kind. They are bred likely with that of the Syrian hamsters that’s why they are dabbed as cousins. They live in a span of 1-2 years and only grow within two-three inches long.

Also, they can quickly adapt to their environment. They can be put altogether in a cage with female and male classifications mixed. They can blend along well with others with not much effort to retain their tameness to people. They are the kind of hamsters that would simply walk right in your palm if you lay it flat on the cage to scoop them out.

Kinds of Russian Dwarf Hamsters

There are basically three common types of Russian Dwarf Hamsters: The Campbell’s Russian Dwarf Hamsters; The Roborovski’s Russian Dwarf Hamsters and the Winter White Russian Dwarf Hamsters.

The Campbell’s Russian Dwarf Hamsters are named after Doctor W.C. Campbell who discovered them. Their hair is grey-brown. They are always associated to the Winter Whites because of their characteristics. However, recent studies proved that they are keener to controlling their temper than the Winter White hamsters.

On the contrary, Roborovski’s Russian Dwarf Hamsters are the smallest amongst hamsters and they don’t have the dorsal lining that is most seen in their kind. They are simply called “Robs”. They are the product of a worthwhile expedition of Roborovsky and Koslov. They appear in sandy-brown shade. In one way or another, they are difficult to train because they are too tiny and very active.

And, Winter White Russian Dwarf Hamsters are unique because they have the ability to change their colour. They are usually seen with their dark-grey shade but they can transform into white to protect themselves from any predators during the winter season. They bear a distinct resemblance of a really white snow in the said season.

How to Identify Russian Dwarf Hamsters

Like most dwarf hamsters, they are much known as quick-motioned and edgy. Being sociable is a special factor. They must be kept ultimately secured in a properly-walled cage since they have a big tendency to easily find an escape because of their size. They have the ability to curl themselves up and fit their tiny bodies in small nooks of the cage, thus, up-close supervision should not take the backseat. They also need the what-is-so-called TLC: tender, love and care.

What is amazing on this type is their ability to change their colour from one season to another. They are the common choice for children and adults who like domesticating them. And for those who are still in doubt of having Russian Dwarf Hamster as a pet, well, I must say that the entertainment and joy that they give is definitely not something that can be equalled to the lesser effort that you usually provide them. The profit is yours.
